Growing up in Memphis, Tennessee was certainly an influence on Andy Childs to pursue a career in music. Determined to follow in the footsteps of the legendary performers who had also come from the historic music city, Andy was already traveling and performing in his late teenage years. After majoring in Commercial Music Business at the University of Memphis, Childs hit the road full-time, serving as opening act, music director, and keyboardist for a series of Nostalgic Rock and Roll tours featuring Fabian, Frankie Avalon, the Drifters, the Shirelles, and more than 40 other stars of the 50's and 60's.
Between tour dates, Andy spent most of his time in Nashville, Tennessee, writing and recording original material. He eventually landed a recording contract with RCA Records, and recorded two albums which featured several chart hits and music videos. While promoting his records, Childs toured with Clint Black, Faith Hill, Martina McBride, Trisha Yearwood, Charlie Daniels, and many other top country stars of the 90Ìs. AndyÌs music videos were seen regularly on CMT, GAC, VH-1, Much Music, and CMT Europe, and he made a number of appearances on network and cable television programs in the U.S. and Canada.
In 2002, Andy Childs formed a five-member group called ÎSixwireÌ, and recorded an album for Warner Brothers Records. The album featured two hit singles, and a ground breaking hit video for the song ÎLook At Me NowÌ. The group is now on hiatus after touring for two years with todayÌs country stars including Tim McGraw, Lonestar, SheDaisy, and many others.
Throughout Andy ChildsÌ career, he has been a popular convention entertainer, appearing internationally for major corporate events every year. AndyÌs variety show and dance sets, which specialize in the music of AndyÌs hometown of Memphis, have been enjoyed by crowds at events for major companies including Nike, FedEx, Disney, Barnes and Noble, Lancome, Belz Enterprises, and many, many others. He has appeared in almost every major city in the U.S., and over a dozen other countries. Andy is also well-known for his association with the Department of Tennessee Tourism, for which he recorded a commercial jingle (Tennessee, We're Playing Your Song) and made appearances all over the U.S. and Europe promoting tourism for the state of Tennessee and the city of Memphis.
Andy Childs and his family make their home near Nashville, where Andy is a staff writer for Windswept Music Publishing. Andy has developed his own production company in Nashville, and is currently producing projects on new, up and coming recording artists. Andy has also begun work on a new recording project in Nashville, to be released later this year.
